Mother, Daughter & Grandmother
(2023)
my works 'Cradle, (2023)' and 'Mother, Daughter and Grandmother, (2023)' are based on the trauma I suffered in a matriarchally family in a patriarchal Chinese society. The two sculptures form series of installation that compose mother-daughter relationship under matriarchal domination from the different perspectives and narratively express autobiographical recreations of daily scenes of my mother and me through fragmented objects. The application of metaphors, similar materials such as metal, soft materials enhance the seriality and narrative of the installation. Specifically, in "Mother, Daughter and Grandmother (2023) "focuses more on my relationship with my mother; the half-open iron cage metaphorically represents the closed family relationship in China, the traditional Chinese Tai Shi chair represents my mother and her power, and the small round stool represents myself.
